TAX NEWS - march 2010 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
California Tax: More than 2 million can file taxes through ReadyReturn"ReadyReturn provides taxpayers the simplest way to file fast and get a refund," said State Controller and California Franchise Tax Board Chair John Chiang. "It eliminates paperwork, and reduces this annual burden to a few mouse clicks." Unlike other online filing options, ReadyReturn involves no number entry. It pulls data from wage reports and past tax returns, and then generates a completed return online. The taxpayer can then review, approve, or change the return. Taxpayers can check to see if they qualify by visiting California Franchise Tax Board website at ftb.ca.gov and clicking on ReadyReturn. All that is needed is their name and social security number. Taxpayers qualify for ReadyReturn if they: - Filed a 2008 state resident tax return with a filing status of single or head of household. - Had no more than five dependents, claimed no special credits other than the renter's credit, and took the standard deduction on their 2008 tax return. - Had only one employer in 2009. However, taxpayers who married, entered into a registered domestic partnership, had a child, received additional income, or qualify for a tax credit, can easily update their ReadyReturn online. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
