Canada Tax: Vander Zalm an opportunist
by Stan Kazmiruk, 02 June 2010 -- I am so disappointed in the way the anti-HST (Harmonized Sales Tax) campaign has gone. I am disappointed in all the people who believe that Bill Vander Zalm will lead us to the promised land -no taxes, woo-hoo!
I am disappointed in the New Democrats, who must be holding their collective noses while siding with him on this issue. I see it as nothing but crass political opportunism -- i.e., forget political principles, let's stick it to Premier Gordon Campbell at any cost.
I would have thought that the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) is exactly the kind of tax the NDP would want to support. It is a broad consumption-based tax, about the fairest kind of tax there can be. The rich will pay more tax because they spend more on goods and services.
Now ask yourselves why Bill Vander Zalm is so opposed to this tax. Hint: It isn't because he cares so much about people like you and me.
