UK Tax: Workers slog for over four hours a day to pay taxes
29 May 2010 - The typical British worker slogs away for four hours and 21 minutes of each working day just to pay their taxes.
A study based on a single British earner - who pulls in the average wage, consumes the average amount of booze and cigarettes, drives a Ford Mondeo and travels to work by public transport - found it takes an hour and 16 minutes to cover their income tax alone.
Among other charges, national insurance takes a further 43 minutes.
The TaxPayers' Alliance, which conducted the research, said: "People now work right into the afternoon just to pay the tax man."
