Is the Champaign County property tax check in the mail?
URBANA, 28 May 2010 – Champaign County Treasurer Dan Welch said the first distribution of 2009 property taxes was made to local taxing districts Wednesday.
Welch said the county sent out $46,120,000 after 17 percent of taxes were collected by Tuesday. The county expects to receive about $274 million for 2009 property taxes payable this year.
Payments for the first installment of Champaign County property taxes are due by June 1, which is next Tuesday. By law, interest on late payments will be calculated at 1.5 percent per month.
A June 1 postmark will be accepted as on time. Office hours for the Champaign County treasurer's office will be extended. The office will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., including the noon hour, on Tuesday. A 24-hour drop box is located under the flag pole on the south circle drive of the Brookens Center, 1776 E.
