First distribution of DeKalb County real estate taxes made
SYCAMORE – DeKalb County Treasurer Christine J. Johnson's office has made the first distribution of DeKalb County real estate taxes.
Of the $187,267,311.34 to be collected, $21,014,163.91, or 11.22 percent, has been collected and distributed to date, and a second distribution will occur prior to the end of June, according to a news release from Johnson's office.
The distribution is for taxes owed in tax year 2009, which is paid in 2010.
"By law the first tax distribution is not required to be made until within 30 days after the first installment due date, which would be the first week in July," Johnson said in the news release. "Our office will have, by that time, made two distributions of tax money to the taxing districts to assist them with their cash flow needs."
The following amounts have been electronically transferred to the taxing entities:
- $12,107,360.13 to school districts
- $2,289,031.15 to DeKalb County and the DeKalb County Forest Preserve District
- $1,455,816.37 to cities and villages
- $1,358,545.92 to TIF districts
- $1,334,542.30 to community colleges
- $874,867.83 to townships and township road and bridge districts
- $726,114.61 to park districts
- $446,111.97 to libraries
- $404,225.33 to fire districts
- $17,548.30 to drainage districts.
Transferring the money electronically is a cost-effective method of distributing taxes, Johnson said, because it eliminates the staff time and paperwork associated with mailing checks.
