Nigeria tax: Federal High Court in Nigeria issues ruling
The federal High Court in Lagos, Nigeria, issued a ruling on 19 October 2009 restraining the Lagos state government from enforcing the new 5% tax on goods and services consumed in hotels, restaurants and event centers within the state on the grounds that it amounts to double taxation. The law was introduced on 1 August 2009, with the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service responsible for administration of the tax. The state government has appealed the ruling, but in the meantime is not enforcing the law.
