Delaware tax: Bear Mortgage Broker Pleads Guilty to Tax Charge
(Wilmington, DE) – Director of Revenue, Patrick T. Carter announced today that a Bear mortgage broker entered a guilty plea in NCC Superior Court to tax charges filed by the State of Delaware.
Mario T. Glover, Jr., 29, entered a guilty plea before NCC Judge Joseph R. Slights, III to one misdemeanor count of willfully failing to file his 2008 Delaware personal income tax return. He originally was charged in a three-count indictment in August 2009 with willfully failing to file state income tax returns.
As a result of the plea, Glover was sentenced to a one-year prison term. The sentence was suspended and Glover was placed on supervised probation for one year. He also was ordered to pay $14,571 in restitution to the Division of Revenue and was ordered to pay a $500 fine. As part of his plea, Glover agreed to cooperate with the Division of Revenue and file all delinquent tax returns.
An investigation conducted by the Division of Revenue's Criminal Investigation Unit revealed that Glover was a self-employed mortgage broker who received significant taxable income under both a corporate name, MTG Marketing, as well as under his own name, yet failed to report any of this income on a state income tax return. Instead, Glover chose not to file Delaware income tax returns even though he knew he was required to do so.
This case was prosecuted by the Delaware Attorney General's office.
