Hawaii Tax: Home Care Provider Guilty of Filing False Tax Returns

HONOLULU — Diane Ahnin is a home care provider who was charged in a grand jury indictment with four counts of filing false and fraudulent statements for tax years 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2005 and one count of willfull failure to file a tax return for 2004. All years involved were related to her general excise tax returns.

Ahnin was sentenced before Circuit Court Judge Randall Lee who denied her request for a deferral of her no contest pleas. Judge Lee found her guilty of all charges and placed her on probation for five years. Ahnin was ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $8,714, a fine of $2,000 and other court fees.

Filing a false and fraudulent statement is a class C felony and upon conviction, a person shall be subject to a fine not to exceed $100,000, imprisonment of not more than three years or probation.
