Hawaii Tax: Local Entertainer Sentenced In Tax Case
HONOLULU — Local entertainer Andrew "Andy" Bumatai pled guilty to five counts of willful failure to file his annual general excise tax returns for 2002 through 2006 and was granted a deferral of his plea by District Court Judge Faye Koyanagi.
As part of his sentence, Bumatai was ordered to pay a total fine of $2,500, perform a total of 300 hours of community service, and remain tax compliant through out his deferral period. No restitution was ordered in this case since it was paid prior to sentencing. The charges that Bumatai pled to are misdemeanor tax violations that carry a maximum possible fine up to $25,000 per violation, a one-year period of incarceration or probation.
