Hawaii Tax Reminder: General Excise Tax Returns and Payments Must be Filed Even If Taxpayers did not Request Booklets
The State Department of Taxation is reminding General Excise (GE) taxpayers to file their tax returns and tax payments even if they did not request to have tax booklets / forms mailed to them.
Tax Due dates: Tax returns and payments are due on the last day of the month following the close of the tax filing period.
- For monthly tax filers, the March 2009 tax return and payment are due April 30, 2009.
- For quarterly tax filers, the January – March 2009 tax return and tax payments are due April 30, 2009.
- For semi-annual tax filers, the January – June 2009 tax return and tax payment are due July 31, 2009.
The Tax Department is encouraging all GE taxpayers to file and pay electronically. The electronic tax filing system now performs math calculations that make filing both quick and simple. To file GE tax returns electronically go to www.hawaii.gov/tax and click on "E-Services".
For taxpayers who do not wish to file electronically, the Department's website now has fillable forms that also perform math calculations. Once taxpayers complete the form on-line, it may be printed and mailed to the Department. Go to www.hawaii.gov/tax and click on "Forms". Next, click on "Alphabetical List". Then click on "G" for form G-45 (General Excise Tax / Use Tax Return).
For taxpayers who wish to continue receiving a tax booklet in the mail, please call the Customer Call Center at 587-4242 or 1-800-222-3229.
