Judy Chu Sponsors Free Tax Seminar for Nonprofit and Exempt Organizations in El Monte - california tax

Judy Chu, Ph.D., Vice Chair of the State Board of Equalization (BOE) and Assemblymember Mike Eng today announced that federal, state, and local government agencies will participate in a free one day Tax Seminar for Nonprofit and Exempt organizations in El Monte.

Representatives from the BOE, Franchise Tax Board, Internal Revenue Service, Employment Development Department, the Office of the Attorney General, and the Southern California Center for Nonprofit Management will be available to assist attendees.

Topics will include Property Tax Exemptions, Sales and Use Taxes for Nonprofit Organizations, Compliance for Existing Exempt Organizations, Employment Taxes and the Nonprofit Organization, Regulation of Charities and Fundraisers, and Nonprofit Management Strategies.

Vice Chair Judy Chu represents the Fourth Board of Equalization District, which includes Los Angeles County. She won election to the BOE in November 2006 and was elected Vice Chair of the Board of Equalization in January 2009.

California State Board of Equalization is a publicly elected tax board. The BOE collects more than $53 billion annually in taxes and fees supporting state and local government services. It hears business tax appeals, acts as the appellate body for franchise and personal income tax appeals, and serves a significant role in the assessment and administration of property taxes.
