RubinBrown Forms New Federal Tax Services Group

Accounting firm promotes Sims, Raskas to new positions

Jun 25, 2010 – ST. LOUIS – RubinBrown recently formed a new Federal Tax Services Group and named Timothy L. Sims, CPA (photo at http://budurl.com/TSims), as the partner-in-charge. Daniel B. Raskas (photo at http://budurl.com/Raskas), was also promoted to partner-in-charge of the firm's Mergers and Acquisition Services Group. The announcement was made by John Herber, CPA, managing partner.

Sims, who joined RubinBrown in 2007 after five years as the vice president of tax for Charter Communications, Inc. and 12 years in the tax practice of a Big Eight firm, provides diversified tax compliance services, tax planning and structuring for mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, planning for tax-deferred exchanges, tax litigation support and tax examination defense. He also serves as a partner in RubinBrown's Manufacturing and Distribution and Media and Entertainment Services Groups.

He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Missouri Society of Public Accountants, the Association for Corporate Growth and serves as chief technology officer of the Broadband Tax Institute.

An accounting graduate from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, Sims is a former board chair and a current member of the board of advisors for the SIU-C School of Accountancy.  He also is a member of the corporate development board for the Make-A Wish Foundation of Missouri.

Raskas, who joined RubinBrown in 2008 after founding and serving as executive vice president for Hitachi Consulting and 15 years at Grant Thornton where he was partner-in-charge of the management consulting practice for the Midwest region and national advanced technology consulting practice, specializes in strategic transaction consulting and provides clients in a variety of industries with services such as due diligence and post merger integration, business process review and improvement, and management and technology consulting. He is a frequently published author and presenter on business strategy and leadership.

A graduate of Drake University ,majoring in computer information systems and accounting, Raskas currently serves as vice president and member of the executive committee for the United Hebrew Congregation, co-chair of that organization's long range planning committee and is a member of the board of trustees. He also is a member of the National Maintenance of Union Membership Committee for the Union for Reform Judaism.
