Mississippi Tax: Saucier business owner charged with tax evasion
HARRISON COUNTY — A Saucier businessman has been charged in a three-count indictment alleging he failed to pay the state for sales taxes collected from his customers.
The Harrison County Sheriff's Department arrested Ronnie Dale Mounteer on Friday after a grand jury returned an indictment on charges of tax evasion.
Mounteer, 43, is owner of Beau's Iron Works, located at his residence in the 15200 block of Graft Drive.
The indictment covers a period from May 1, 2006, through Jan. 20, 2009. It claims he collected $41,763.37 in sales taxes during that period but did not give that money to the state.
Agents from the Gulf Coast District of the State Tax Commission investigated the case and turned the findings over to the District Attorney's Office for prosecution.
Deputies arrested Mounteer on a warrant Friday. He was released from the Harrison County jail on a $20,000 bond.
