Oklahoma Tax: Tulsa City councilors deny sales tax idea
TULSA, Oklahoma -- More taxes for cash-strapped residents is a tough sell and Tulsa city councilors weren't buying. At their regular citry council meeting last night, councilors voted down Councilor Jack Henderson's proposal for a permanent one-cent sales tax to help the city's financial situation during the current city budget crunch.
The proposal would have raised $60-million to be split by police, firefighters and parks. Voters would of had to approve it first.
