Ohio Tax: Twister victims could get tax relief
VILLAGE OF MILLBURY, Ohio - Michael Sibbersen, Wood County auditor, reminds property owners who experienced damage in recent storms that they may be eligible to claim a reduction in the taxable value of their property that is destroyed or damaged.
Real Property owners are encouraged to contact the auditor's office to receive an application to claim the reduction. By law the reduction amount is pro-rated on the basis of the calendar quarter in which the damage occurs.
An application for reduction must be filed by the property owners and submitted to the county auditor by Dec. 31 of the current year. After verification and site inspection, a credit against the 2011 property tax statement will be issued.
