German prosecutor denies Swiss tax probe at risk
Germany, June 10 (Reuters) - German authorities continue to investigate customers and staff of Credit Suisse for potential tax evasion, prosecutors said, denying media reports the probe was in jeopardy.
The Financial Times Deutschland newspaper and Capital magazine had reported the investigation was at risk after prosecutors circulated detailed internal documents to colleagues in other jurisdictions, which could let suspects' lawyers see them.
"By law, case files have to contain all the significant aspects of the case. We acted according to the law," Duesseldorf prosecutor Nils Bussee said in response to the articles.
He declined to say how long the probe might last.
German prosecutors said in March they had launched 1,100 tax evasion probes against clients of Credit Suisse and were investigating bank staff on suspicion of aiding tax evasion.
